You can obtain various drugs in pharmacies without prescriptions. Knowing how to say “painkiller”, “medication” or “pill” can be useful during your time in Turkey. If you don’t know what medication is the best for you, you’ll be able to describe your symptoms and understand a pharmacist’s questions at the end of this lesson. For the drugs that require a special prescription, you may need to see a doctor.

Customer: Hello, I have a really bad case of the flu — can you recommend a medicine for me?
Pharmacist: Of course. Does your throat hurt?

Pharmacist: Then let's give you a painkiller and fever reducer. And some throat lozenges. Please take this medicine on a full stomach after dinner. You can use the lozenges whenever your throat hurts.

-DIr: for a period of time
Attached to a time expression, -DIr (not the same as the copula "-dir") marks how long something has been going on — like English "for" or "since."
-A önermek: to recommend something to someone
Öyle ki: so much so that
Kolay kolay: not easily
Kolay kolay literally suggests "easily," but in a negative sentence it flips to mean the opposite — "not easily" or "not readily."
Aç karnına / Tok karnına: on an empty / full stomach
These are fixed expressions built from aç (hungry) and tok (full) — always in this exact form, not something you assemble freely from the grammar alone.

Özen means care or attention.
