Talking About Your Holiday in Antalya

Antalya is maybe the busiest city in Turkey in summer because of its beaches and hotels. After you finish your holiday, you may want to talk about how was your holiday with your friends or colleagues. In the dialogue, you’ll hear about one of the speaker’s holiday in Antalya and learn some words and phrases to use when talking about your holiday.

Erkek: Tatilde nereye gittiniz?
Kadın: Antalya’daydık. Şahaneydi.
Erkek: Neler yaptınız bakayım.
Kadın: Aslında ilk Salda Gölü’ne gittik. Gerçekten çok güzeldi. Gitmenizi tavsiye ederim.
Erkek: Sonra?
Kadın: Sonra, Kaleiçi’ne gittik. Burada saat kulesi vardı. Müzeleri ziyaret ettik. Birçok antik yapı gördük. Hepsi de muhteşemdi.
Erkek: Peki hiç yüzmediniz mi?
Kadın: Tabii ki yüzdük. Görmüyor musun? Esmerim. Baya yandım.
Erkek: Evet, görüyorum.

Translation

Man: Where did you go on vacation?
Woman: We were in Antalya. It was fabulous.
Man: What did you do?
Woman: Actually, we went to Salda lake first. It was really beautiful. I recommend you to go.
Man: Then?
Woman: Then we went to Kaleiçi. There was a clock tower there. We visited the museums. We have seen many ancient sites. All of them were amazing.
Man: Didn’t you swim?
Woman: Of course we swam. Can you not see? I’m brunette. I’m pretty sun-burned.
Man: Yes, I see it.
Woman: We made a boat tour. It was really incredible. We went to the Aspendos theater. An ancient theater. I did not know that there were so many ancient places in Antalya.
Man: Well, of course.
Woman: What did you do? Have you been somewhere?
Man: No, we were here. I worked during the whole vacation.
Woman: Oh, yes. I think you will use your annual leave at another time.
Man: Yes I think so.
Woman: Well, let’s see. Antalya is a good option. For your information.

As you’ll see in the videos, the suffix of past tense is -DI. The variations are -ti -tı -tu -tü -di -dı -du -dü. Of course, as seen in the example “şahaneydi”, you may need to use the buffer letter y.
