Buying Cinema Tickets

Netflix and other services entered our lives very fast and are the reasons why we go to cinemas less frequently than before. But let’s be honest, cinema is a whole different experience. In the dialogue, you’ll hear someone buying cinema tickets and getting a discount.

Öğrenci: İstanbul kırmızısı adlı filme gitmek istiyorum.
Gişe görevlisi: Tamamdır kaç kişisiniz?
Öğrenci: Toplam dört kişiyiz. İki çocuk, iki öğrenci.
Gişe görevlisi: Çocuklar kaç yaşında?
Öğrenci: Dokuz ve on.
Gişe görevlisi: Hmm anlıyorum fakat bu yaştaki çocukların bu filme girmesi uygun olmayabilir.
Öğrenci: Ah haklısınız buna dikkat etmemişim. Dördümüzün girebileceği bir film var mı?
Gişe görevlisi: Arzu ederseniz çocuk filmleri var. Disney tarafından uyarlanmış Güzel ve Çirkin’i size önerebilirim mesela.
Öğrenci: Evet bu film olabilir. O zaman bu filme dört bilet lütfen.
Gişe görevlisi: Tabii. Hangi seans olsun?
Öğrenci: Saat kaç? Hmm 11. Bu seansa yetişememişiz. O zaman bir sonraki seansa, saat 12 ye olsun.
Gişe görevlisi: Nereye oturmak istersiniz? Ekranda yeşil olan yerler boş koltuklardır. Onlardan seçebilirsiniz.
Öğrenci: D sırası beş, altı, yedi, sekiz numaralı koltuklar olsun.
Gişe görevlisi: İşleme geçiyorum. Toplam 80 lira.
Öğrenci: Bize öğrenci indirimi yaptınız mı?
Gişe görevlisi: Hayır. Fakat öğrenci kartlarınız yanındaysa hemen yapabilirim.
Öğrenci: Hemen gösteriyorum. Buyurun.
Gişe görevlisi: Teşekkür ederim. Yeni fiyatınız toplam 70 lira.

Translation

Box office: Welcome. Which movie would you like to go to?
Student: I want to go to the movie called Istanbul Kırmızısı.
Box office: OK, how many people are you?
Student: We are a total of four people. Two children, two students.
Box office: How old are the children?
Student: Nine and ten
Box office: Hmm, I understand, but it may not be appropriate for children of this age to enter this movie.
Student: Oh you’re right, I didn’t pay attention to that. Is there a movie that four of us can enter?
Box office: There are children’s movies if you like. For example, I can recommend Güzel ve Çirkin (Beauty and the Beast) adapted by Disney.

The suffix -ki

1. Ki, in the middle of a sentence, acts as a conjunction.

2. -ki also be in a locative situation.

3. The suffix -ki: It singles out an individual example of a possessed or located person or object.
