Real Problems of Turkish Students

What are the real problems of Turkish students? Because of the difficult measurement exams each year, they are under constant stress. Graduating from a good university is not enough for finding a job sometimes. In the dialogue, you’ll hear a conversation between an anxious teenager and mother.

Anne: Nasılsın, yavrum? İyi çalışıyor musun? Bak sana kahve yaptım.
Öğrenci: Ellerine sağlık anne. Biraz konuşabilir miyiz?
Anne: Tabii oğlum buyur.
Öğrenci: Ben bu üniversiteyi kazanmak istiyorum ama sence yapabilecek miyim?
Anne: Tabii yaparsın. Neden yapamayacakmış gibi sordun ki?
Öğrenci: Çünkü ben artık çok sıkıldım. Çalışmak istemiyorum bu sınava. Zaten kazanabilme şansım da belli değil. Acaba bir işe mi girsem?
Anne: Olur mu hiç öyle şey oğlum? İleride olabileceğin yerleri hayal etsene. Kesinlikle yapabilirsin. Aksini düşünmen bile hata.
Öğrenci: Ama babam zamanında yapamamıştı. İşe başladı, başarılı oldu. Acaba ben de mi öyle yapsam?
Anne: O zamanlarda dedenin çok durumu olmamıştı. Baban bu sebeple iş hayatına atılmıştı.
Öğrenci: Haklısın anne. Çok çalışmaktan boğuldum sanırım, kısa bir araya ihtiyacım var.
Anne: Aferin sana. Şimdi dinlen biraz. Kahveni iç.
Öğrenci: Zevkle içeceğim. Teşekkür ederim. Eline sağlık.
Anne: Afiyet olsun oğlum.

Translation

Mother: How are you, baby. Do you study well? Look, I made you coffee.
Student: Thank you (lit. health to your hands). Can we talk a little?
Mother: Sure, my son.
Student: I want to enter this university, but do you think I can?
Mother: Of course you do. Why do you ask as if you can’t?
Student: Because I’m so bored now. I don’t want to study for this exam. It is not clear my chance to enter anyway. I wonder if I should get a job?
Mother: Don’t say that, son? Imagine where you can be in the future. You can definitely do it. It’s a mistake to think the other way.
Student: But my father couldn’t do it. He started to work and succeeded. I wonder if I should do so?
Mother: At that time, the grandfather did not have much money. For that reason, your father had to work.
Student: You’re right, mother. I think I was overwhelmed with hard work, I need a short break.
Mother: Good for you. Rest a little. Drink your coffee.
Student: I will drink with pleasure. Thank you. Thank you.
Mother: Enjoy your drink, son.
